Join Us for our Seven Women Updates Online!

Since 2006, there have been so many people who have woven magic into the brilliant masterpiece Seven Women has become. From interns to those who have come to Nepal with us on our Hands on Development tours, the Seven Women team is grateful for all of the hard work and support over the years. All who have contributed, we are greatly indebted to and we greatly appreciate their support. To show our appreciation last year we began hosting a virtual monthly Seven Women update for our donors and supporters.

Our seven women updates have been a hit. We started them last year as a way to have people from all over the world listen in, share advice networks, ask questions and be able to hear from our team on the ground in Nepal.

In this blog, we profile Rhys Williams who has been a great supporter of Seven Women. Rhys is a leader who has a special zest for life and a way of connecting with people. Rhys is also the first guest of the Inspiring Humans: Seven Women podcast edition. Rhys has designed and implemented offshore tertiary education and training programs for over 20 years, for RMIT and Victoria Universities and vocational providers. This work has included partnerships with social enterprises KOTO in Vietnam and Seven Women in Nepal. Rhys has a disabled son and when hearing about the work of Seven Women resonated and wanted to learn more. Rhys believes in the transformative power of education and training. He then came to Nepal with us and was drawn into the culture and people of Nepal. Rhys recounts that he noticed how “Nepali’s are such engaging and respectful people that really have a zest for life”. In this first episode of the Seven Women Podcast, Rhys recalls his experience travelling with the Seven Women team in Nepal and says that he had a great experience being able to engage with so many different people in Nepal, seeing the manufacturing process, doing a cooking class and an art class really allowed for making human contacts with the people in Nepal.

For future projects, Rhys is working with the team at Seven Women to build a strong education and training program that will help individuals learn employable skills. This program will contribute to expanding the program for Seven Women that will help the organization expand as a social enterprise. The broad idea is for Seven Women to have an international curriculum that comes from Australia and allows for Seven Women to provide jobs and skill development through the guest house, beauty salon, cooking classes and an upcoming project of a sustainable horticulture system. By providing a higher level of training, women in Nepal will be encouraged to join the training programs and this highly-trained staff will help bring in people from around the world as responsible tourists to the Seven Women projects (cooking classes, guest house, etc) in Nepal.
